Wednesday Whisky Club - Scapa 16 Years Old

June 06, 2018

Can you believe it's been a week already? This week's selection to get the taste buds going is the Scapa 16 Years Old. Dramatically located on Orkney's famous Scapa Flow, the little Scapa distillery has suffered from turbulent history, inconsistent marketing and the dominant shadow of its more famous neighbour Highland Park.

Scapa 16 Years Old - Scotch and Rich

The distillery was owned by Allied Distillers since the mid 1980s but was badly run and just as it was assumed it'd close over £2m was spent in 2004 on a complete refurbishment.

It was then acquired by Pernod Ricard's Chivas Brothers who relaunched the brand and added a 16 years old expression to the line up.

Colour: Pale and quite interesting

Nose: Fresh fruit, spice and vanilla

Taste: Caramel sweetness, honey and grassy notes

Finish: Ginger nut biscuits and a slightly oily finish.
