Happy Wednesday Everybody!
"When I got of an age to understand Old Pulteney, I could admire its quality when well matured, recognising in it some of the strong characteristics of the northern temperament." Neil M. Gunn in Whisky & Scotland
Located on the coast at Wick, the distillery has changed hands on a number of occasions and is today owned by Inver House. The 17 Years Old isn't the oldest of the expressions however its got a combination of exceptional taste which makes it the favourite amongst them. With a piquant, salty taste and long finish it's a favourite at awards with multiple titles to its name.
Colour: Very pale for the age, but predominantly matured in ex-bourbon wood
Nose: Sweet and yet salty; loads of honey, vanilla and lemon
Taste: Remarkably complex and justifies taking time over it; malted barley notes roll over into some liquorice and chocolate flavours, with a steady drumbeat of salt ever present
Finish: Goes on and on, drying and fading steadily and consistently.
